MNpublius: MNGOP may face fines for crooked bookkeeping
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch…
By jeff-rosenberg January 6th, 2012 We’ve been talking a lot about the MNGOP’s $2 million in debt and how it related to the party’s fiscal irresponsibility. But there’s one more wrinkle to the story: The party’s most recent financial disclosure shows only half a million in debt. That has led to a complaint by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), an organization which already won a judgment against the MNGOP for similar bookkeeping failures.
Last week, Republican Party officials announced that the state party was $2 million in debt. Party officials also acknowledged they failed to disclose $415 thousand in past debts. The complaints come just a few months after the Republican Party admitted to a similar violation in 2007….
Newly-elected Party Chair Pat Shortridge was unavailable to comment about the complaints. But RNC Committeeman Jeff Johnson said at last week’s State Central Committee meeting that the party could face additional fines.
